A Material Revolution, Blending Nature with Innovation
karuun® is a new – revolutionary material, suitable for a vast range of interior design markets, that’s not only sustainable, but also, is versatile with a truly wonderful and utterly unique aesthetic.
karuun® uses ‘rattan;’ the hollow stems of the palm tree, as its core structure. These stems or capillaries are comparable to bundles of tubes, capable of transporting high volumes of water.
The innovative technology that forms karuun®, utilises the capillaries, filling them with specialist bulking agents. This helps to create a surface or board material for manufacturing that’s a viable alternative to plastic or timber.
A Unique and Adaptable Appearance
A combination of the natural ‘rattan’ fibre structure and the specialist technology that creates karuun® makes for a material product that has unlimited levels of flexibility.
Bespoke forms can be created – free of any exposed joins making Karuun suitable for a wide range of traditional and high-tech applications.
Any colour variation can be injected into the capillaries and processed into a Karuun surface adding further to its bespoke capability.
Unique to karuun® is its ability, through the application of heat or steam, to be easily processed into three dimensional forms with very little force or energy.
These qualities make karuun® a ‘must have’ product for all interior design markets.
The 3D Plastic Replacement
The natural fibre structure gives karuun® it’s all important pliability; the combination of capillary treatment and a special viscose – nonwoven fabric gives a karuun® surface unprecedented 3 x dimensional formability.
Spherical objects, such as a small button, are possible as are such items as deep-drawn, formed compartments; all of which are free of joins or splinters.
Rattan’s structural composition is utilised to form karuun® Shine; a lightweight material which is simultaneously permeable to both air and light whilst remaining strong and tactile.
The capillary structure of Rattan is fully utilised by karuun® Shine to offer exciting acoustic, lighting and flooring solutions.
A Truly Sustainable Product
Unlike a tree, which once felled is gone forever, Rattan – once cut, re grows very quickly.
Rattan also forms a natural symbiotic relationship with its neighbouring plants in the rainforest; this means that cultivating rattan promotes reforestation and rainforest preservation.
karuun® along with ‘T3 – Tree Tracking Technology’ (used within all karuun® plantations) helps to preserve rainforests whilst allowing karuun® customers to trace the origin of their products – from Kalimantan through to Indonesia.
